Since buildings emit approximately 40% of greenhouse gases in the United States, we seek to do our part to reduce that load as responsible building owners. At Sydney Associates, we launched several initiatives to develop and maintain environmentally friendly buildings. For example, at 1443 Beacon Street, we have instituted “green” measures including an expanded trash recycling program and the installation of energy efficient lighting and high efficiency laundry equipment. In several other commercial properties, we installed motion sensors in the stairwells, trash and laundry rooms as a means to conserve energy. We have conducted NStar and NGrid energy audits and identified opportunities for conservation in boiler rooms with variable frequency pumps and garages with changes to the electrical fixtures.
We continue to seek ways to reduce our buildings’ greenhouse gas emissions and to preserve our environment, and have asked our commercial tenants and rental apartment residents to join us in solid waste reduction, as well as energy and water conservation in their homes, stores, and offices, in addition to the measures that we employ in the common areas of each building. With these initiatives, we hope to achieve a reduced environmental impact through the efficient use of energy, water and natural resources.
